Reports of suspected child abuse and neglect are received by the Department of Public Welfare's ChildLine and Abuse Registry, which is the central register for all investigated reports of child abuse in PA. Individuals who during the course of employment, occupation or practice of a profession who come into contact with children are required to make a report to ChildLine, when they have a reasonable cause to suspect that a child under the care, supervision, guidance or training of that person or of an agency, institution, organization or other entity with which a person is affiliated is a victim of child abuse committed by any person. In addition to required reporters any person may report suspected abuse. Reports received at ChildLine are forwarded to staff of the county children and youth agencies that are responsible to conduct the investigations.
